About
A little about me, Eva.
Why Mahana Studio? Mahana is my middle name - it's a Polynesian word meaning 'sun', 'warmth' or 'day'. Mahana Studio is the little corner of our house that is my haven on a rainy day or a slow Sunday afternoon.
I was born and raised in Cairns and have spent almost all my life living in Far North Queensland. I'm Australian-Tahitian, and have been to Tahiti and neighbouring islands many times and still haven't scratched the surface of all the beautiful places to see. I have a bad habit of taking up new hobbies, and am particularly drawn in to anything hands on and creative. In my spare time, I love to spearfish, freedive, mountain bike and hike with friends.
While I'm a pretty outdoorsy person, I also love a good indoor rainy day activity (and need plenty of them living up in the tropics). Following a change in creative interests during 2023, I've recently moved away from a previous small-scale business where I sold prints of my artwork. Drawing brought me joy but I found that I'd lost the spark and needed to try something new.
After finishing a few silversmithing courses at my local gem club, and refreshing myself with online training courses, I'm taking the dive and doing my best to make thoughtful handmade jewellery pieces while aiming to support as many other small-scale businesses as I can when sourcing my tools and materials.
